Austin's fence lines run through some of the toughest ground in Texas. West of the Balcones escarpment, our crews drill into limestone bedrock. East toward the clay belt, we're fighting expansive Blackland soil that heaves and shrinks with every wet-dry cycle, racking fence posts and leaving gates dragging off their hinges.
Since 2015, Austin Fence Contractors has built and repaired fences across Austin and the surrounding areas, including ZIP 78703. We know what happens when a post gets set wrong in clay, how cedar holds up under live oak canopy and summer humidity, and why most leaning fences fail at the post, not the panel. We're here to fix it right, or tell you honestly when repair makes more sense than replacement.
Fencing in Austin (78703)
Austin's ground is split by geology and climate. On the west side, limestone runs shallow and hard. Crews drill deep, set posts in concrete, and work around the live oaks and cedar elms that shade most lots. On the east side, the expansive clay swells in rain and shrinks in drought, heaving fence posts and causing visible lean within a season or two. Add Austin's humidity and you've got untreated wood rotting at the ground line faster than most homeowners expect. The single-family stock here, from bungalows in established neighborhoods to the newer master-planned communities, sits on this same challenging soil. Pool fences are common on upscale properties, and HOA cedar standards mean material and color matter before you ever dig a post hole.
We've been serving Austin and the Austin area since 2015. Our crews are fully insured, and we're members of the American Fence Association. We work from your existing survey and install on the line you identify. For storm damage assessment, we help document what happened so you can file a claim with your insurance company. Final compliance for pool barriers rests with the local authority having jurisdiction.

How a Fence Project Works in Austin
Step one is a free on-site assessment. We come out, look at the existing fence or the space where you want to build, talk through what you need, and explain what the ground and local code will require. We'll ask about your HOA rules if you're in a master-planned community, because height, material, and color are governed by deed restrictions in many Austin neighborhoods. We'll also confirm that a Texas 811 utility locate has been called before any post holes are dug, because that's required by law.
Step two is the work itself. Whether we're setting posts in concrete on limestone or tamping them in clay, spacing them right to prevent racking, and installing board-on-board, side-by-side, or chain link, we work methodically and leave your property clean as we go. Gate installation, post replacement, fence repair, and restoration all follow the same standard. If you've got a leaning fence or storm damage, we assess whether repair holds or replacement is the better spend, and we tell you the difference.
Step three is cleanup and final walkthrough. We haul debris, leave the site clean, and make sure you're satisfied with the work before we leave.
Fence costs in Austin depend on material, ground conditions, and what's already there. Wood and privacy fence typically runs from $32 per linear foot. Vinyl starts around $42 per foot.
